Botox® is used to soften facial wrinkles from the brow, forehead, lip, neck, chin and eye areas. You no longer have to look tired, upset, or angry when you’re not!

Botox® has been used since 1980 to treat many medical disorders such as lazy eye and uncontrolled blinking. In 1987 Dermatologic Surgeons pioneered its cosmetic use.

The lines that appear between your brows, around your eyes and lips, and on your forehead result from muscle movement and the passage of time. You may have heard the expression “wearing your emotions on your sleeve,” but in reality you wear them on your face. For example, if you’re angry or annoyed you pull your brows together. When your facial muscles contract, they cause a pleating of the overlying skin. After years of crinkling and wrinkling, these lines start to linger longer and can become more pronounced and permanent.

Once Botox® relaxes and weakens the muscle, it cannot contract as well. Thus, the undesirable lines gradually lessen from disuse of the muscle. Furthermore, new creases are prevented from forming.

Botox usually takes effect within three to seven days. The results last on average from four to six months.

Botox® and fillers are the most popular aesthetic combination therapy. Typically Botox® is used to eliminate or prevent wrinkle formation of the top one third of the face and around the mouth. The bottom two thirds of the face is the primary domain of fillers. Dr. Cirillo-Hyland explains, “In simplest terms, you use Botox® to relax, fillers to fill in, lasers tighten and resurface, and radiofrequency and surgery to tighten.” As we age, we lose volume and definition and that is where fillers, such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Sculptra® are utilized. These filler substances target specific levels in the skin and when combined produce excellent results. They vary in their length of duration from four months to two years.
